Artist Statement:
My work is about finding balance and striving toward self-actualization through chaos and chance. I work with mixed media to compose dynamic, layered surfaces wavering between abstractions and representation. My process is intuitive, guided by my upbringing in Ecuador and experiences coming of age in a foreign country.
My most recent artwork builds a visual dictionary of my body and how it stores and communicates emotions from pain to liberation. Visualizing how a feeling engages and transforms my body gives me the power to understand what I'm sensing and lets me take charge of my narrative. I hope the viewer can see their own experience in my work, and it will help them find a way to understand their mind and body connection.
